Cyberbullying is a serious problem that can have devastating consequences for the victim. If you witness cyberbullying, it's important not to stand idly by. You can act to help the victim and ensure that the harassment stops.

Here are some tips

  1. Don't remain passive. Cyber-harassment is a crime. By doing nothing, you encourage the bully and let the victim suffer.
  2. Support the victim. Let them know that you are there for them and that you believe them. Encourage them not to respond to bullies and not to be intimidated.
  3. Document the harassment. Take screenshots of messages, photos or incriminating videos. This evidence can be useful if the victim decides to file a complaint. If you are a SafeBear subscriber, click on "Defend Yourself".
  4. Report the harassment. You can report harassment to the platform's reporting system where it takes place (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) or to the authorities on the PHAROS platform. If the nature of the harassment is prosecutable, go and file a complaint.
  5. Talk to a trusted adult. If the victim is a child, talk to their parents, a teacher or another trusted adult.

As a witness to cyberbullying, you have an important role to play. By supporting the victim, documenting the harassment and reporting it, you can help put an end to this scourge.

Remember: cyberbullying is not inevitable. Together, we can fight it.
